Sessions With a Surgeon
Anger Mentors™ recently had a referral of a well
known surgeon by the hospital administration. The chief
complaint of the administration was that the surgeon, an
immigrant, was having difficulty in managing his anger
in the operating room.
Although the circumstances of his anger and frustration
are valid, he was unable to communicate his needs
effectively and appropriately, resulting in
confrontations in the operating room with nurses and
other doctors.
He was given the Conover Assessment, yielding a need for
strengthening his Emotional Intelligence and developing
better communication skills. He scored high normal in
his motivation to change. Because this surgeon is an
immigrant, a slight language barrier and some cultural
differences are imminent. This is taken into
consideration and assessed as well, as the course gets
underway.
Anger Mentors™, using the Anderson and Anderson method
of teaching/coaching, is enabling this client to utilize
the skills learned in two individual five hour sessions.
The client is learning to get his needs met, reduce
stress and create a better work environment for himself,
his co-workers and the administration.
After the first 5 hour session, the client is now
practicing assertive forms of communication, so as not
to offend or violate the rights of others. In this
regard, the end result will be this surgeon's ultimate
goal: Quality care for his patients.
